With Beregond that has Inner Strength, you can defend for the other player like crazy, while Merry makes sure threat isn't too big of a problem for you. And if it still is, Aragorn can reduce it again, while also defend a bit with Sentinel if needed. So, use all your other threat reduction on the other player. That being Beregond's ability, The Galadhrim's Greeting and Galadriel's Handmaiden.
What you want to find early is: Arwen Undómiel to get Beregond up to 6 DEF, Dúnedain Pipe to filter your hand, A Test of Will of course to cancel encounter cards and Unexpected Courage for Beregond to defend more.
