prestovenger 35

prestovenger has a newer deck inspired by this one: Rescue Ori from Dol Guldur

11/27/22

Hi all, I mentioned that in order to complete the third quest of the Core Set Series, Escape from Dol Guldur, solo, I improvised the rules.

Here's how I justify it thematically. Gandalf has been watching over the three travelers as a Johnny-on-the-spot ally, but now that a one of their companions has been captured, he needs to join the questors as full-fledged hero to help save him. I started the quest with a score of 32 and I barely won this, solo, with a score of 49 after 9 rounds (and only a couple of foul ups on triggers and rules -- like putting two allies in a turn here and there--). The first time I did it with Eowyn and Theodred who rescued Aragon.

I'm sure some might say this is a cheat, but I look at it as a way to circumvent having to create two decks and run a two-player rescue. Plus, I had a lot of fun both times including Gandalf as a full hero. Casting Flame of Anor against the Nazgul of Dol Guldar was great!

Some things I would change if I were to do this rescue attempt again... Drop A Very Good Tale and Lure of Moria for another Celebrían's Stone and another Snowbourn Scout or another Longbeard Orc Slayer. Galadriel was an absolute game changer for both times I did this. The one thing this deck is needing is someway to reduce your threat amount. Any thoughts/suggestions?

One other thing...it's important that you equip Gandalf with his staff and pipe as soon as possible (another reason to include Galadriel in your deck) especially, in this case, I couldn't add Bilbo Baggins.

On to the Quest 4 and 5 of the Mirkwood series (I just got the expansion in the mail yesterday!). Happy questing!

I would swap Bifur for Nori, and then add great cards like Zigil Miner.

That's a great hero swap. I wondered about putting in the Zigil Miner. I'll give it a try.

Also, I would not cut A Very Good Tale. In fact, I would add more. Its a great card. I would also add Kili and Fili. They are great with Dáin Ironfoot and A Very Good Tale. I would remove a few Durin's Song and add Bofur and Dwalin. Obviously, you should cut the Lore cards if you remove Bifur. We Are Not Idle should definitely be here. It is a free card if you buy it from the top of your deck and can add resources. You can even use it after Dáin Ironfoot stays ready to boost your dwarves . Longbeard Orc Slayer is also too expensive.
