LOTR FTW 31

This is a deck featuring Quickbeam. I really like Quickbeam for his stats and ability, but in trying to build a deck featuring him, I have found it is suprisingly difficult. The lack of restricated attachments is a problem that is more pronounced than I realized, and his trait of ent only unlocks access to three cards (I believe) Boomed and Trumpeted Ent Draught and Entmoot. There are other cards that play off the ent trait, such as Booming Ent, but all in all, the ent trait just isn't as strong as some other traits, obviously my opinion. Enough of why I thought this deck was somewhat difficult to build though! On to what is in here and why!

As mentioned, Quickbeam is the focus point of the deck. Galdor of the Havens was chosen to help setup the needed early game combo, and Denethor is here for the same reason he is in basically any deck - because he starts with 3 resources and pretty low threat.

Opening hand - you are looking for Rune-master and either Doughty Ranger or Song of Kings. Song of Kings is the preferred card, because there is so much Leadership in this deck, but Doughty Ranger can at least get Rune-master started while you look for Song of Kings in the coming rounds. Mulligan for at least two of these three cards and this is one of the two times in the game where Galdor of the Havens shines. Make sure to use his setup ability to get you going!

From there, most of this is pretty straight forward. All the purple signals are going on Quickbeam and he uses Rune-master to profit from one of them each round. All heros should quest every round. Dúnedain Quest will help drive up questing on Quickbeam as you go and all the other signals can come on to make Quickbeam a beast by mid game or better. I play a lot of multiplayer, very little single player, so Dúnedain Cache and Dúnedain Signal are in because I want to play off the other players in the game. Damage will come onto Quickbeam regularly, so getting healing going as soon as possible is a good idea. If you play multiplayer, having someone with Elrond could greatly benefit this deck. For healing, Lembas is the only card you have direct access to at the beginning of the game. I do consider this a weakness of the deck, but hopefully by turn 2 or 3 you can get Warden of Healing or Self Preservation going. The two ent allies are for combat. Errand-rider is to help with resources smoothing - mostly to move over to Galdor of the Havens so you can get into the green cards that have some higher cost. Arod and Asfaloth are there to have some measure of location control as this deck should be fine to handle most combat, even in multiplayer. The first Ent Draught can go on whichever ent needs it in the moment. Obviously Quickbeam is always a good option there, but the allies could work well too depending on situation. Helm of Secrecy is a bit of an experiment here. It can be used either for Denethor or for Galdor of the Havens. For Denethor, the only ongoing value he really could bring here is as a defender or for his ability to move resources to other gondor characters, which if you are in multiplayer, there may be value with that. He shouldn't be defending much and if you are just using him for questing, get rid of him and bring in Sam Gamgee instead. For Galdor of the Havens, if you have already used his ability to draw up to 6 cards again, he is also not terribly useful going forward (other than access to Asfaloth and Lembas). Swapping him out is hard though because you need to likely stay with a green hero to have access to the green cards remaining in your deck. Depending on your threat and the quest, you could go to Pippin which may generate you more card draw without losing questing strength.

So all in all, I hope this is an interesting deck for someone to play! It might not quest hard enough to be able to play single player, but could be fun as party of a fellowship with some other players!

If you read all this, please give me your feedback! I love hearing what the community thinks.

I found this deck because I'm looking for a way to make use of Helm of Secrecy. I think you do a good job thinking about how Denethor and Galdor really don't have much use after just a bit into the game. Also, I really like Quickbeam but I too think he's so hard to use well. Thanks for the deck! I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for your post. I feel Denethor is the perfect kind of candidate for Helm of Secrecy due to most of the time you want him for his quick start ability. I have started a different iteration of this deck because I have found things about it that I’m not too fond of, but the idea is still pretty decent. Quickbeam has such a great ability but the lack of restricted definitely holds him back. Hope you enjoy playing this and I welcome your feedback with modifications you would recommend.

in your deck with much expensive green cards, bifur seems a better replacement then pippin.

would include 3 entthing. replace with dunedain quest. dunedain quest has bad willpower/cost ratio and i think there are enough other signs. if you include entthing there are 15 cards that fit "ent".
