2020: The Deck

If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that it is not going the way we had planned. It is basically a treachery. It felt like we were fighting a Long Defeat, with everything being restricted and the news is constantly depressing and troublesome. We have all felt isolated and unable to do anything productive.

2020 has introduced the world to some new phrases, such as; Social Distancing!

GenCon and Con of the Rings were canceled. I love to see my friends and hang out with them. Unfortunately we could not get together in person. Much like the allies in this deck!

Look at all those allies that are unable to come play with thanks to Na'asiyah's ability. A couple of great allies are here, but with no way to generate resources they will have to stay away as well. Fili but no Kili? They are teaching us a Master Class in the practice of social distancing. Master of Lore is like one of those fake doctors that keep popping up and giving horrible advice based on terribly inaccurate data. And finally, Emery's action is the epitome of Social Distancing, with herself being the only card in the deck, she is destined to stay 6 feet away in your discard pile.

Some of the Attachments are the items we have that we have always taken for granted. Like toilet paper. And Hand Sanitizer.

Other Attachments are stuff we have, but cannot use. Like: vehicles and jewelry worn when you go out.

It was interesting to see how much stuff I own that becomes useless when I can't share it with others. No BBQ's with friends, sharing a cool Bew. No sports with a buddy.

The Events are the things we like to do, but could not. You will notice most of them are completely un-playable.

The only one you can do, is not really that great. Sure, you can go to a restaurant and cut into a steak, but is it worth the risk?

So, this is the world we live in now. Wearing a mask to Delay the Virus as we Explore New Ways to get together safely.

This is why it is so very important to stay connected in communities like the LOTR LCG one. Join the FB groups and Discords (https://discord.gg/hApBUFT). Share your stories, play together virtually, and have fun in the best way you can.

Even though the world has changed, it does not have to change you! If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that fellowship is truly one of the most valuable things we have.

Stay safe everyone, and I hope this deck got a laugh or two. Is there any other cards that I could have used?

This is OP and needs to be banned. I beat Escape from Dol Guldur, Massing at Osgiliath, and the complete Numenor cycle back to back without healing or reshuffling. #broken

PS -- suggest replacing 3x Golden Belt with 3x KET

@jigmelingpa I almost didn't publish it for that very reason. Was not sure the world was ready for this epicness.

@jigmelingpalol! I kind of like that Golden Belt is the only restricted attachment....

Great point. Instead, let's take out Shadowfax, the 3x Healing Herbs, and put a 2nd copy of Brok in to really ramp up the efficiency.

I can't issue a like for this because 2020 doesn't deserve one.

In response to your last question, I'm not sure which cards would fit, but a 2020 deck doesn't seem complete without something representing working from home and becoming the homeschooling parent you never wanted to be.

@The Purple Wizard maybe Master Ironsmith fits that role? He wants to go out and get to work, but it stuck in your hand for the whole game.

Longbeard Map-Maker maybe? No wait. I am a homeschooled high school student, and the epitome of homechooling is crafts. So, Erebor Toymaker.

You're right, why pass the buck? As a homeschooled kid myself I'll go look up some suggestions for unprepared first-time homeschool parents. How about Outmatched, Followed, Defiant Challenge, Desperate Alliance, We Do Not Sleep, The Road Goes Ever On, and Grim Resolve? Any and all of those could describe your first homeschooling experience.

For homework we have Scroll of Isildur, Map of Earnil, Tome of Atanatar, and Book of Eldacar as our textbooks.

And, of course, the perfect card for working at home is The Door is Closed!!!

A true masterpiece

Great work, but I feel that the opportunity that 2020 has provided to take the time and reflect upon our lives and develop new skills has been missed in this deck. Then you discover that you don't really have time to develop new skills what with all the extra childcare and homeschooling. Thorongil would be perfect for the deck.

Good, but I'd add Snowbourn Scout. Every day, or round, is like another chump block. We long for the good 'ol days where we thought we were Behind Strong Walls. Nowdays We Do Not Sleep. Things aren't looking good! Better hope you don't run into any Sleeping Sentry (but you probs will).

I love that you made this deck! Thank you for this!

@Uruk-guy thanks! Glad you are all enjoying this.
