Preliminary attempt at using Thorongil to turbo-charge the Lothíriel/Imrahil combo. This deck is still quite rough, so suggestions welcome!
The goal is to sneak Imrahil into the quest and sacrifice Folco to keep him in play. Then, use Thorongil to gain his shenanigans.
Basic strategy is to put Steward on Denethor, and Horn of Gondor on Éomer. Pass resources to Lothíriel as needed.
In the early game, Lothíriel and Folco quest, Denethor blocks, and Éomer blocks. Nothing too special there.
Ideally, Gléowine and a Healer enter play before you blow Folco, but it's not a huge issue if engagement issues force you to trigger early. None of the cards are crucial while waiting to find the Song.
I may drop Éomer (and Bond) completely. That would give me more time to get everything set up (starting threat 22/15), and allow 3x of key cards. TBD.
Thoughts?

Oct 07, 2020the idea is essentially good. i thought for myself, why not playing with imrahil from the start, but the secrecy is the key. i think the most efficient deck would be, skip eomer and exploit secrecy. thorongil is o.k. but not essentiel. then you can have 3 imrahil and tons of cards to get him early, so you might end in the 1. round with denethor, imrahil(spirit) and lothiriel for ridicilous thread of your mentiond 15. imo thorongil is not this much important then. you can play the whole book of secrecy (and perhaps thorongil). means put in timely aid, recourseful and secrecy-allies. take the ring and make denethor potent defender. this sound to a potent deckidea to me. the carddraw have to be settled, but horn + some sneaked in gandalfs should do the job. if you want i would create a deck, but i do not want to steal your idea, so i wait until your next version and then make mine. cheers you made my night with this idea ;) |
Oct 07, 2020Agreed that card draw is a weakness, but I don't think it's that bad. Gléowine and Horn provide card advantage, and Valiant Sacrifice is trivial to trigger. The 6 events all help prune the deck. Worst case scenario, you can burn 4 resources to Heed the Dream. Another option is to add The One Ring and a master card, to effectively drop to 48 cards. Galadriel could be a good option. I've never tried that, but now that you mention it, she seems promising.
Go for it!! I'm just excited about the idea, and am happy that you like it too. I'd love to see what you come up with. :) (Just remember that without Eomer, you can't use the Horn.) |

Oct 08, 2020Untested and very rough, but I leaned into the bounce theme with Thorongil: ringsdb.com Bit worried about card draw, but we'll see how it plays in practice. Lots of decisions still to make. |
without much carddraw itis very unlikel to cheat imrahil in. if you want to use bond-contract, i would try to get more draw/deckcontrol.
this could be galadriel (ally), perhaps that is enough, with her, if imrahil is not within the first 5 then perhaps a drinking song.
