SchadenfreudeNE 292
I built this deck after listening to the latest episode of COTR, where they discussed putting Well Preserved on Galadriel, and having her take undefended attacks for the entire game.
Ring of Barahir and Nenya are the other key cards in the deck, to pump up Galadriel's hit points and to give access to Lore to play Well Preserved. I had not yet built a Harad deck nor a Círdan deck, so this seemed like a good opportunity to use those elements.
The deck definitely seems to work after a couple of playthroughs. I took it up against the second quest in the limited edition box. Three of the first four enemies out of the gate (on turns 1, 3, and 5) were Goblin Troop, Great Cave Troll, and Great Cave Troll. I was able to engage them one at a time, and they were defeated by the end of the combat phase after I engaged them. At the start of the next turn, Galadriel heals all of the damage with Well Preserved, and it's like those enemies never existed!
Threat mitigation is a definite priority, and this deck has a lot of it, between The Galadhrim's Greeting, Elrond's Counsel, Sneak Attack-Gandalf, and Galadriel's action.
Drawing was not a problem with Círdan and (again) Galadriel's action. It was fun discovering a combo of Magic Ring with Galadriel to effectively draw a free additional card each round and allowing her to still contribute her willpower during the quest.
I built the deck as a "proof-of-concept," and it could probably be better tuned. The King's Return is probably the first cut, just because it was not difficult to get the guarded attachments on the board. Song of Wisdom is another likely cut. It's in there primarily to increase the probability of playing Well Preserved by the second turn, but the deck might draw well enough to find Nenya that Song of Wisdom might not be needed.
This deck was fun to build and play, and I may take it up against some harder quests. Thanks again to COTR for the inspiration!
Cool!
