Sméagol loves his eagles!

Sméagol was wandering the Misty Mountains searching for the accursed Baggins, when he stumbled across the Eyries of the Eagles. For whatever reason, Sméagol has a soft spot for "Birdses" and squealed with delight upon the sight of them. And the Eagles had the same response! What! Has middle earth gone mad?

This reminds me of that moment after the ring has been destroyed, and gandalf comes with the eagles to get frodo and sam out of there. There are 3 eagles following gandalf, each grabs one of the hobbits and the third one kind of moves to grab something, sees there is nothing else on the rock, and just flies away. It's subtle but it tells that gandalf asked for three eagles to bring back frodo, sam and sméagol. Sadly Sméagol is not there.

what if he had been there, and because he has been so removed from civilisation for so long, he chose to live among the eagles in the mountains? He can relate to their predatory, wild, untamed nature. Maybe some sort of respect would develop between them. Radagast would defenitely be the guy to help him recover, being so apt at healing and dealing with everything wild. I can picture a version of the story where radagast takes Sméagol in after the ring is destroyed, helps him find peace, and introduces him to the eagles, of which sméagol becomes very fond. Once he has earned their respect, one of them would let him ride him. Atop the eagle, seeing the world that hurt him become so small, sméagol would cry and realise he is free.

Send for Aid would help with finding Radagast, or at least a big bird. Radagast could also use his staff, depending how easily you manage to deploy him.

@askelad, I don't have Send for Aid, and if I did I'm not sure if I'd use it. I've found from my few experiences with them, I don't really like side quests. And, while he can scrounge up enough for a win, Sméagol isn't particularly good at questing.

As for Radagast's Staff, I'd love to have that on my hands but card pool again.
