After a predictable loss running a 4-player deck as a solo deck, we tried again with a twist: I allowed myself to add one of each card type, and adjust the quantities of original cards however I pleased (0-3 copies).
Our principal additions of Éowyn, Pippin, Favor of the Valar, and Sterner than Steel covered what the original deck lacked (i.e. what it was built to rely on other decks for): willpower, threat reduction, and shadow management. With some luck, even our single added copy of Prepare for Battle became a powerful source of card draw.
It was a great opportunity to show how even economical tweaks can turn a hopeless matchup into a much safer proposition, all without specifically tech-ing for the scenario itself.
