Keeping the three heroes drafted on Beorn’s Bear Draft at Con of the Rings 2022 (his summary here) I also kept most of the other cards. I increased the frequency of some cards and made a few substitutions.
Arwen Undómiel is nice for getting Beorn and Giant Bear into the discard pile so the Beorning Skin-changer and Birna can retrieve them. Allies also can be played from the deck via Thengel’s ability, which is why there are overlapping traited Beornings, creatures, and scouts.
Questing and combat has, in general, not been a problem in play-testing. The biggest hiccup is a starting threat of 31 which may precipitate combat before being ready (although Grimbeorn the Old can handle many early foes). There are five cards to lower threat, so at least one should appear early.

Oct 29, 2022I would mulligan based on the scenario. If threat needs to be lowered, I would look one of the 5 spirit events that might help. The Galadhrim's Greeting can be paid first round via Arwen’s hero ability. The other big need would be a cheap ally, a spirit one or Wilyador. Then, using that one to defend, you can use Thengel’s ability to leapfrog into a bigger Tactics ally. I usually am saving tactics resources to pay for the Beorning Skin-changer since that can be leveraged into a Giant Bear or the Beorn ally. |
Looks like a fun deck Doc :) What do you mulligan for? Do you run short on tactics resources at times?
