DECK NAME - The Stacked Hiders
OVERVIEW - This deck is designed to win the quest without ever engaging a single enemy. Doesn't matter if all 5 Black Riders are in the staging area, this deck has the tools to sneak past them. Hide Tests are also easy to pass with this deck; just takes a little bit of set up. Wins in 8-9 rounds tops usually.
HEROES
- Beravor - draw cards each round
- Glorfindel - attach Light of Valinor and Asfaloth
- Sam Gamgee - attach Hobbit Pipe, CelebrÃan's Stone, 2X Fast Hitch, and Steward of Gondor
- Frodo Baggins - attach Hobbit Pipe and 1X Fast Hitch
STRATEGY
- STARTING HAND - some good option are Light of Valinor, Fast Hitch, Elrond's Counsel, Steward of Gondor, and Sneak Attack/Gandalf
- QUEST STAGE 1 - Try not to play allies in stage one (other than Sneak Attack/Gandalf to lower threat) and try not to advance until you've got your board set up; it's important to boost Sam with CelebrÃan's Stone and to attach several readying cards to your heroes before moving on to 2A; you might need to quest for a loss to make sure you don't advance; use Elrond's Counsel w Dwarven Tomb and Sneak Attack/Gandalf to keep your threat at 24 and under
- QUEST STAGE 2 - advancing to stage 2 is the most dangerous part of the quest unless you are ready to pass the Hide Test that comes with revealing the Black Rider (there might be a hide test on the card revealed in staging before moving on to 2A so that's 2 straight hide tests which is why you need readying effects on your heroes); the effect on 2B punishes you for having multiple allies; I usually only have Gandalf (ready) and Faramir out when advancing to stage 2
- QUEST STAGE 3 - you'll cruise through
- OUTLANDS ALLIES - get 3X Ethir Swordsman out before putting any other Outlands allies in play
- Faramir - exhaust him every quest phase to boost for questing and Hide Tests
- CARD DRAW - tons of it! Beravor, Daeron's Runes, Frodo's Intuition, Hobbit Pipe, and Gandalf
- THREAT REDUCTION - Elrond's Counsel, Dwarven Tomb, and Gandalf
- Radagast's Cunning - negates from a Black Rider when needed; hardly ever use but there in case something goes south and gets out of hand
- The game is literally won and lost based on how you transition from Stage 1 to 2. Keep your threat below 25 at all times!
