DECK NAME - Dawn, Take This Quest!
OVERVIEW - After my favorite quest in the solo progression (Dunland Trap), we come to my least favorite. I truly hate this quest. I was hoping the nightmare deck would improve it, but it actually made it worse. Mince Them Fine forces us to use Eleanor (for setup "when revealed" cancellation) and Denethor. This deck turtles at stage 1B while you get everything set up. You can kill all the trolls and get the treasure cards with this deck if you want.
HEROES
- Beravor - draw cards
- Denethor - attach 3X Unexpected Courage and manipulate the encounter deck
- Eleanor - attach Song of Kings and Steward of Gondor
- Bilbo Baggins - attach 2X Fast Hitch
STRATEGY
- SETUP - exhaust Eleanor if a Minced Fine treachery comes out
- STAGE 1 - use Denethor along with recursion effects like A Watchful Peace and Shadow of the Past to control what is revealed in staging; keep Eleanor ready initially if you don’t know what’s coming in staging
- STAGE 2 - make sure that your threat is below 23 before advancing to stage 2 using Sneak Attack/Gandalf; up to you if you want to kill the trolls / get the treasure; if so you will need to make sure a Troll Camp location is in staging
- Thrór's Key - just a product of having to include 50 cards in a deck; don't really need it; do NOT attach to Comfortable Light or else you can never discard it; deck might be better with Thrór's Map included instead which would help us get rid of Comfortable Light
- A Watchful Peace and Shadow of the Past - help early on when Denethor doesn't have multiple Unexpected Courages yet
- Peace, and Thought - exhaust Bilbo and Eleanor for this effect when safe to do so
- TROLLS & TREASURE - If you want to kill the Trolls and/or get the treasure just engage Bert with the attachments in him (William if you want to kill all the trolls); Bilbo can discard sacked cards if a Troll Camp is in staging;Sneak Attack Gandalf in and damage chosen troll during encounter phase, then again in Combat; defend with Denethor and make sure your single copy of Hasty Stroke is in hand; attack with just Gandalf and exhaust Bilbo to grab the key; then kill the troll during refresh; if you killed Bert just travel to the troll cave next round and win the game or if you killed William you can now use Gandalf’s direct damage to kill the remaining trolls in staging
- I hate this quest.
