Copterman 1314
DECK NAME - Mister Frodo
OVERVIEW - This is one insanely tough quest in solo. It's one of those you lose a lot in setup and early rounds if you have the worst cards come out regardless of what deck you use. An obvious tactic is to go with Aragorn, Elrond and Glorfindel and hope you get Vilya in your opening hand (if you don't you lose, so that's not very consistent). Even then, you often will lose based on what Vilya and the encounter deck randomly puts into play.
With this deck, we’ll draw cards like crazy and stack Frodo with every attachment under the sun. We’ll use traps and various means of threat reduction to keep us alive for 15-20s rounds while we load Frodo up.
HEROES
- Beravor - attach Song of Kings and Self Preservation, draw cards
- Bilbo Baggins - attach Hobbit Pipe and Self Preservation, exhaust him at the start of the quest phase to satisfy the forced effect at the start of each quest phase
- Frodo - attach 2X A Burning Brand, 3X Fast Hitch, Gondorian Fire, 3X Good Meal, Hobbit Pipe, 3X Protector of Lórien, Song of Battle, Song of Wisdom, Steward of Gondor, and 3X Unexpected Courage; since Beravor and Bilbo will be exhausted every round, Frodo is your only ready hero for defending etc
STRATEGY
- OPENING HAND - mulligan to try and get either Steward of Gondor or A Good Harvest
- GOLLUM OBJECTIVE - don't forget that you "control" Gollum and he counts as an ally character so he can be used to satisfy the King Spider when revealed; attach Self Preservation
- STAGE 1 - it's great to either put out a Ranger Spikes or a Fast Hitch and Protector of Lórien on Frodo; use your discretion to determine if Frodo should quest or not; turtle for a loooooong time while you get Frodo loaded up with all of his attachments; Protector of Lórien will help you to defend and quest with Frodo without raising your threat
- STAGE 2 - quest past the stage easily but use a Risk Some Light during staging action window to make sure a nasty treachery doesn't come out during stage 3
- STAGE 3 - quest past in one round; remember you can't play cards from your hand
- STAGE 4 - if you have taken your time your threat can be at 0 when Frodo finally crosses the finish line
- THREAT REDUCTION - this is the most crucial part of the quest; Arwen Undómiel w Elrond's Counsel, The Galadhrim's Greeting w Good Meal, and Sneak Attack w Gandalf should keep you alive through the early fragile stages; by the end of the game you might even get to secrecy
- A Burning Brand - of utmost importance you have a copy on Frodo asap as some shadow cards force you to discard your attachments
- Gondorian Fire - since Steward of Gondor gives Frodo the Gondor trait he can use Song of Battle to attach GF and hit back for major damage as the game progresses
- Protector of Lórien - pivotal for protecting Frodo on defense and also clearing active locations
- Self Preservation - protects Gollum objective as well as Bilbo Baggins from the annoying Mirkwood Bats
- A Test of Will - always try and have one in hand; use Dwarven Tomb to grab out of discard if able
- Risk Some Light - important to use after staging before moving on to stage 3; insure no game ending treachery comes out when you can't play a A Test of Will from your hand
- Will of the West - despite the huge hand size of this deck, I have often gone through all 3 of my WotW in the games I have won
