Pairs with my "Gandalf Ramp (Group 7)" deck for the BEST 2-Player deck combo!

This deck combo is UNDEFEATED through every scenario I've tried including "Escape from Dol Guldur", "Return to Mirkwood", "Murder at the Prancing Pony", "The Massing at Osgiliath", "Shadow and Flame", "Flight from Moria", "A Shadow of the Past" and MORE!

Please let me know if you have any feedback, suggested edits, questions, or scenario performance updates, as these decks are my own original inventions!

Hero Description:

  • Aragorn is the killing machine for the table. He will always attack unless otherwise needed.
  • Amarthiúl is the resource and defending hero of the deck. His abilities allow him to get both the tactics resource icon and even additional resources when you’re engaged with enemies. He will generally defend UNTIL Gandalf from the “Gandalf Ramp (Group 7)" deck becomes a defensive sentinel tower for the group. Amarthiúl will assist in attacking once Gandalf takes the defending under his wing. Yet be careful with how much damage Amarthiúl takes as he only has 3 health.
  • Sam will ALWAYS quest. Be sure to remember his ability so that he can defend and attack against small enemies. His double-usage can be critical, yet his main role in the deck is to quest.
  • Elfhelm is an OPTIONAL hero who can replace Amarthiúl. He will give Erestor more willpower and Aragorn more attack. Use him instead of Amarthiúl if you need more early willpower but be aware that you will have more restricted resource generation. You may need to rely on Gandalf’s Staff from the “Gandalf Ramp (Group 7)" deck more for resources, which will make your opportunities to draw cards and deal with shadow cards all the more slim.

IMPORTANT!!! Steps to using THE Aragorn Machine: (1) Optionally engage an enemy that Aragorn can kill during the optional engagement step [check for triggering Sam’s ability or Ranger of Cardolan], (2) Use Roheryn to have Aragorn immediately attack and kill that enemy, (3) Use Rohan Warhorse to ready Aragorn, (4) Trigger Aragorn’s ability and pull-in an enemy from ANYWHERE on the board [check for triggering Sam’s ability or Ranger of Cardolan].

Remember that you will WANT to have a few enemies engaged with you at a time to fuel Amarthiúl, the Warrior Sword, and Aragorn’s ability. Don’t be afraid of having a few small enemies stick around (I’m looking at you Eastern Crows).

Opening: Remember that this deck only has some card draw and taking a mulligan is a very viable method to try and get a better hand.

Opening Hand: (Try to have any number of these cards in your OPENING HAND)

  • Galadriel (3 Leadership): Will allow you to search for and play important attachments FOR FREE that can get your deck up and running from early on.
  • Steward of Gondor (2 Leadership): NOT A NECESSITY for your opening hand, but definitely won’t hurt to have around.
  • Warrior Sword (1 Tactics): Very important for buffing Aragorn’s attack and for triggering Foe-Hammer to draw much needed cards.
  • Foe-Hammer (0 Tactics): Helps you draw cards but NEEDS a Warrior Sword.
  • Feint (1 Tactics): Can help you handle some big enemies early on (I’m looking at you Hill Troll) if you happen to not have the appropriate cards to fend them off and get your board set-up.
  • Guardian of Arnor (3 Leadership): A GREAT defender for the table. Having multiple of them out at a time can easily turn the tide of the game.
  • Honour Guard (2 Tactics): Always a good idea to have one of these guys out first or second turn if you can spare it. Great to help with ealy enemy swarms and can help both decks get set-up.
  • Heir of Valandil (2 Leadership): NOT A NECESSITY for your opening hand, but definitely won’t hurt to have around. Attach this to Aragorn in case you defend with Amarthiúl and he is killed.

Ideal Board State:

  • Aragorn: Roheryn, Rohan Warhorse, Warrior Sword, Heir of Valandil
  • Amarthiúl: Steward of Gondor
  • Sam: Fast Hitch(from the “Gandalf Ramp (Group 7)" deck)

Indiv. Card Descriptions:

  • Dúnedain Hunter: Helpful if you need more enemies to fuel your deck but be careful, as he is not always good to play.
  • Dúnedain Watcher: Don’t rely on her over other cards. Use Gandalf’s Staff’s shadow effect ability, Tides of Fate’s ability from the “Gandalf Ramp (Group 7)" deck, defending with your strong allies such as the Ranger of Cardolan or Guardian of Arnor, and use Honour Guard to prevent bad shadow effects from killing your people. Dúnedain Watcher is not a bad addition to this deck, especially if you get Heir of Valandil and can spare some resources.
  • Galadriel: (See above)
  • Honour Guard: (See above)
  • Secret Vigil: The “secret” winner of this deck, especially with Aragorn’s frighteningly good ability to eliminate enemies. This will help the entire table as well, not just you.
  • Man the Walls: Helpful for both decks to save resources and flood board with allies.
