DECK NAME - Conflict Escalation
OVERVIEW - Use Denethor and 3X Unexpected Courage to control the encounter deck. Do not quest successfully the first 6 rounds. The Nightmare Setup card places a progress on the quest card each round so you will advance to Stage 2 after questing phase in round 7. By then, you should have drawn all or nearly all or your deck. Use Aragorn's Refresh Action during round 6 so that the Trolls won't engage you in round 7. Then slowly pick the trolls apart. Wins in 11 rounds usually.
HEROES
- Aragorn - attach Sword that was Broken
- Beravor - use her action every round
- Denethor - attach A Burning Brand, Blood of Númenor, Song of Battle, Song of Travel, Steward of Gondor, and 3X Unexpected Courage
STRATEGY
- OPENING HAND - Steward of Gondor and A Good Harvest is the dream; otherwise look for card draw
- STAGE 1 - do not quest successfully no matter what you do; just use Denethor to bury enemies and to peek ahead so you know what kind of to commit during questing; see OVERVIEW above
- CARD DRAW - Beravor each round; a couple of safe/early Peace, and Thought, Gléowine, Daeron's Runes, and Mithrandir's Advice should draw your entire hand by round 8
- THREAT REDUCTION - Aragorn's Refresh Action in round 6 and 2X The Galadhrim's Greeting is enough
- STAGE 2 - remember to use Aragorn's Refresh action before moving to round 7; see instructions below for stage 2 approach
- STAGE 3 - choose Hill Troll for the non-unique troll enemy and insure your is below 30; chump the boss troll and then attack back and kill for the win
- Miner of the Iron Hills - save for removing Sacked condition
- A Burning Brand - included to protect Denethor (or even Aragorn if in a pinch) against Muck Adder attacks
- Forest Snare - save for stage 2 if possible, but sometimes you get an early enemy you need to trap
- A Test of Will - results in a free round when you cancel treacheries; preference for the first few rounds
- Peace, and Thought - use sparingly and only if you are desperate for certain cards; don't use Beravor for this action; best to have an Unexpected Courage or 2 on Denethor if possible
- LOCATIONS - leave Hives and Hives in the staging area; be careful not to leave a Troll Lair in staging or you can't reduce your threat
STAGE 2 BREAKDOWN
- Round 1: engage Louis and feint him; attack and damage him but don't destroy
- Round 2: put Forest snare on Louis; engage Rupert and feint him; attack and destroy Rupert
- Round 3: engage Morris and chump w Gleowine or defend w Denethor; attack and damage Morris but don't destroy him; destroy Louis
- Round 4: forest snare on Morris; engage Stuart and feint; attack and kill all trolls
Nice deck! Don’t think its a progression deck though, you are using cards from the Gondor expansion cycle and Carrock is in the Mirkwood cycle.
