Copterman 1314
DECK NAME - Deep Woods Off!
OVERVIEW - The first Nightmare scenario released makes a familiar quest much more challenging and interesting. The biggest boost in terms of difficulty comes from the enemies and the effects that punish you for having exhausted characters as well as taking attack undefended. But not all the cards in the deck are from the NM expansion. There are still several locations that require only 2 progress to explore, so let's definitely plan to include Glorfindel and Asfaloth. Additionally, Denethor with 3X Unexpected Courage will help us to manage the killer cards that we would encounter otherwise. Let's keep our threat low and include DĂșnhere to give us an extra resource each round to pay for 3X The Galadhrim's Greeting as well as the Unexpected Courages. He can even one-shot several enemies that we hope to leave stranded in the staging area.
HEROES
- Denethor - attach 3X Unexpected Courage
- Dunhere - generally won't quest with him; we hope to kill enemies in the staging area as we aim to keep our low
- Glorfindel - attach Asfaloth and Light of Valinor
STRATEGY
- SETUP - we are hoping to see Light of Valinor, Envoy of Pelargir, Elrond's Counsel and Unexpected Courage
- ROUND 1 - I usually pass up playing Light of Valinor for Unexpected Courage. Denethor's ability is the key to this quest. Make sure only one of your heroes is exhausted after questing. Then, travel to Old Forest Road to ready that hero. Defend with Denethor and then attack and kill Forest Spider (or keep your threat low enough to leave FS in staging and kill with Denethor in two rounds)
- STAGE 3 - if you get the option that requires you to kill Ungoliant's Spawn, you'll want to add her to the staging area; she is not "revealed" from 3b's effect so her "when revealed" doesn't trigger; just chump attack back until she's dead
- Envoy of Pelargir - normally best to add the resource to Denethor rather than Glorfindel as resources are harder to come by
- Gléowine - try to get into play asap
- Knights of the Swan - can give you some nice to deal with Ungoliant's Spawn
- Asfaloth - great against most of the locations; even works against Glade of the Spawn; I usually don't travel to Abandoned Camp unless I can insure it can't hurt me to explore it
- Ranger Spikes - Ungoliant's Brood is the preferred target
- A Good Harvest - don't be afraid to use early in order to get cards into play; not just for use with Knights of the Swan
- EFFECTS THAT DAMAGE EXHAUSTED CHARACTERS - just use your noodle; it's okay to take threat hits rather than lose all your allies
- Hummerhorn - Dunhere can swat it away; if you see this as a shadow card, you might be crying
