Premise

Caldara remain an extremely powerful archetype even after her errata and this is my preferred solo deck for it. Arwen Undómiel is of course the hero best synergizing with Caldara with Círdan the Shipwright being another great fit (for providing questing, discarding, ally-readying and leadership-access through Narya.

The deck is otherwise very straight-forward, you get good allies in your discard pile and then Caldara in the right moment (recognizing that moment depends hugely on your boardstate, so it is very hard to make a conclusive recommendation here)

How To Play

I like to look for Prince Imrahil and Narya in my opening hand, especially Imrahil is great to see. With Narya and allies like Glorfindel, Treebeard and Gandalf who have built-in action-advantage, A Very Good Tale is an amazing payoff card with a very low tempo cost usually.

Considerations

Knight of Belfalas is great to recycle himself or Pelargir Shipwright in quests that discard allies and you therefore need cards like him to recycle stuff. Warden of Healing is great if Imladris Caregiver is not sufficient. Map of Earnil I really enjoy to recycle cards if needed (e.g. Elrond's Counsel in threat-intensive quests).

Enjoy!!!

A nice deck even after Caldara erratum. The other great solo Caldara deck is : Caldara + Dáin Ironfoot + Arwen Undómiel + The Burglar's Turn. The both have good results, with two different feelings and types of assets :

  • Caldara / Cirdan is more tricky and random at early game with less control, is vulnerable against setup/ first round scenario's combat engagement, but way more comfortable in questing and gets a more intensive and long-run progression of two allies (Glorfindel and Jubayr)

  • Caldara / Dain and Burglar's Turn is more consistent early games, gets a top-tier start when the scenario does not the player set its board and shenanigans up. Then, it lies more on the number of allies than the individual qualities. The attachments of the contract bring a kind or randomness that is more psychologically sustainable because it connotes like a Christmas gift

In the two configurations, the Caldara's effect is always satisfying as a impressive and useful early / mid-game burst that is often a first sign and step towards the victory.

There are so many scenarios which target allies hit points that Ethir Swordsman without Anfalas Herdsman is too fragile with its 1 HP. Plus, the willpower of this deck is good enough without him in general. So I would suggest to replace him by 3 x Knight of Belfalas or 1 x Lindir + 2 x Eregion Survivor, because it's thematic too (Noldor), and while the drawing is good, the discarding pace with Glorfindel + Imladris Caregiver and other effects often empty the cards hand.

Thanks for the kind words and interest :)

Not sure I agree on Ethir. The points you raise are fair, but leave out a few things:

  • There are also a fair number of quests where exponential willpower is often key to win, some among the most difficult ones in the game (e.g. Ash Mountains, Lonely Mountain, Return to Mirkwood).
  • If there is direct damage to allies, it is extremely easy to play around it with Test/Tomb and timing the entering/exhaustion of your Ethirs. As long as you are mindful, I wasn't hindered much by thise kind if effects.
  • They free up resources elsewhere, especially for attacking. Which is something this deck can struggle with otherwise.
  • They have 1 att themselves for 2 resources. That comes in very handy in quests where they provide overkill.
