This deck is all about scouting, particularly with Dale characters and the Spirit sphere. Widfast can pull Gavin during the setup stage, which then plays with Lanwyn's ability to get a buff when an encounter card with surge is revealed, or Gavin is buffed if there is no surge.
Originally built to be just a duo using Strider which could pull in Firyal with Song of Wisdom and Sword-thain, I decided to add Beyond the Original Bargain and Messenger of the King as a guaranteed way to put (MotK) Firyal into play with her powerful scouting ability.

Apr 28, 2025"Inappropriate", "flaw", "cheat", etc. are all based on a very confident and rigid interpretation of the intent of the cards and the gameplay. Now, your interpretation is probably correct, but I would say it's debatable. My main goal is to have fun with the game, not adhere to the strictest possible standard of interpretation at any moment -- that is anti-fun. Having said all of that, it doesn't play very well with Firyal as a hero anyway, because there is nothing to spend her resources on. So I may revert the idea back to Strider, Song of Wisdom, and Sword-thain. Either that or I need add more copies of Song of Travel to get Firyal spending her resources more quickly. |
Apr 29, 2025play like u want in private but for cons i recomand a usual agreement. |
Apr 29, 2025I personally love the idea of using Messenger of the King with At the End of All Things or Council of the Wise with A Perilous Voyage. I imagine you could do some strong things with those decks but they both have at least some downsides of either a higher threat or having to put 100 unique cards in your deck. Cool deck and idea! I would have never thought of this. |
Apr 29, 2025if u want it easy, there is a mode for that ;) |
Apr 30, 2025ALeP has a FAQ entry for Beyond the Original Bargain here: alongextendedparty.com
The FTCL wording is available on that page. Note that ALeP still considers games that ignore any or all its FTCL entries to be 100% valid. However, by doing so you may end up experiencing easier gameplay than ALeP intended. On a personal note, as the lead designer for this card, I encourage going with the FTCL wording in this case. We were close to not even printing this contract due to this interaction. The FTCL was the remedy that got this card out the door. |
another imo inapropiate use of Beyond the Original Bargain
the flaw of At the End of All Things is not to have 3 heroes from the start, to cheat it (and start with 3rd. hero from the setup) with doublecontract and the pre-AleP-wording of Messenger of the King is not the way it should be played....
i stronly recomand to faq it to not take away the meinflaw of before existing contracts. (same with the combo A Perilous Voyage + Council of the Wise
make what u want in solo but i hope this way does not become standart in fellowshipgames. have fun!
