DECK LIST - Ill Eagle Activity
OVERVIEW - I find this to be the toughest scenario so far in solo progression other than Escape from Dol Guldur. The encounter deck just puts pressure on everything all at once.
We have to get Asfaloth or Thrór's Map out asap so we can begin healing Wilyador. Speaking of healing Wilyador, Elrond allows us to boost healing AND he can pay for cards and much-needed Eagle allies.
A lot of things can go wrong with this quest early, so Sneak Attack/Gandalf is there to help us in a pinch.
HEROES
- Beravor - attach Thrór's Map; exhaust her every round and draw draw draw
- Elrond - attach Song of Travel, and Steward of Gondor
- Glorfindel - attach Asfaloth and Light of Valinor
STRATEGY
- OPENING HAND - look for Steward of Gondor w A Good Harvest, Ranger Spikes, Asfaloth or Thrór's Map, Light of Valinor, and A Test of Will
- STAGE 1 - my favorite first play (other than SOG) is putting out a Ranger Spikes; hopefully no enemy is revealed which gives us an extra round of set up; try and get Asfaloth or Thrór's Map out asap to knock out the Rhosgobel location or Wilyador will die since you can't heal him; try and move on to stage 2 with Wilyador fully healed (using 3X Warden of Healing w Spare Hood and Cloak attached and boosted by Elrond)
- STAGE 2 - fully heal Wilyador using your Wardens of Healing (don't use Elrond's reponse or else he is discarded) and then boost Elrond's using Lay of Nimrodel
- CARD DRAW - Beravor, 3X Master of the Forge, and 3X Daeron's Runes
- THREAT REDUCTION - 2X Elrond's Counsel and Sneak Attack/Gandalf (though he's used for direct damage more often)
- Eagles of the Misty Mountains - Elrond can pay for these allies; might can use an extra copy of A Good Harvest a few rounds in to spend some of Glorfindel's resources)
- Master of the Forge - use early to fish for Asfaloth, Thrór's Map and Steward of Gondor even if in danger of losing to a treachery; eventually they can serve as a chump
- Warden of Healing - the most important card in the deck; always put out with Spare Hood and Cloak attached to thwart the Swarming Insect treachery; keep in mind they are boosted by Elrond; TIP - be sure to exhaust 3X WOH to heal Wilyador before moving on to 2A after Staging and before resolving the quest; NOTE: don't forget you could use Spare Hood and Cloak and exhaust a Warden of Healing if in dire need to ready Beravor to play Healing Herbs or to draw cards (maybe to dig for a Sneak Attack)
- Forest Snare and Ranger Spikes - avoid enemy attacks
- Hasty Stroke - use only for Hummerhorns shadow
- Lay of Nimrodel - save for questing in stage 2B; Elrond should quest for +10 or so
- Shadow of the Past - use to grab a discarded Athelas or if you're on the verge of defeat and it will insure you survive next staging
- Sneak Attack/Gandalf - mostly for use in combat against some of the tougher enemies like Treetop Bird-eater, but versatile as always
- CAUGHT IN A WEB CONDITION - attach to Glorfindel if you can't cancel
- NOXIOUS SUPPLIES - can't ever discard since all our healing effects are 1 point of healing
