My contribution to the Journey Along the Anduin Quest of the Week is a Grey Wanderer Mirlonde build (a chance for this Silvan elf to show her quality, or at least to achieve a 60% win rate against the quest). Play goes like this:
- Pull Strider with The Grey Wanderer and mulligan for Resourceful. You will eventually need to build up a large quantity of resources.
- Slowly build up resources and draw through your deck. Use Risk Some Light to dodge Necromancer's Reach and to set up friendly draws for your two Guarded artifacts (Necklace of Girion & Stone of Elostirion). Henamarth Riversong can also help with this.
- Defending low-engagement enemies in the early game can be really dicey, but most of the shadow effects in this quest are not evil (Despair is a noticeable exception).
- Eventually, Mirlonde should have 6 (boosted by Necklace of Girion and Stone of Elostirion), have the icon from Song of Travel, and should be equipped with Protector of Lórien and multiple copies of Unexpected Courage.
- Once Mirlonde is ready, you need at least two copies of Lay of Nimrodel and Fair and Perilous in hand before you are ready to advance to stage 2.
- Engage the Hill Troll and either chump it and eat the threat raise or use Protector of Lórien to block with Mirlonde. Play Lay of Nimrodel to boost Mirlonde's to at least 10 and then play Fair and Perilous to give her at least 12 . She can now one-shot the Troll (or both if you manage to engage both!).
- Use Gildor's Counsel on stage 2 to only reveal one card and play Lay of Nimrodel again to super-charge your questing push. If things go well, you can burst through stage 2 in one phase.
- Kill any enemies that come out at stage 3 with Fair and Perilous (or with your Mirkwood Runners).
Not the craziest deck in the world, but a fun chance to use an unconventional hero in an unconventional way. Happy questing!
